Vision · The what
What we want the business to become.
Three connected parts: the structure of success, the discipline of alignment and the behaviours that turn intention into action.
Start with the outcomes: a better experience for People, a stronger Product and sustainable Profit. Leadership and Management support those outcomes; Coaching is the foundation that helps people put direction and plans into practice.
Leadership asks why, establishes principles and looks for progress. Management turns direction into plans, workable processes and useful measures. Coaching connects those expectations to individual behaviour.
Purpose is the central gear. The six connected gears—Vision, Mission, Values, ICP, UVP, and Roles & Goals—need to work together. The engine makes those strategic connections explicit before they become plans, processes and measures.
Why are we doing what we do? The reason we create value for these customers, connected to a goal that matters to us.
What we want the business to become.
How we will achieve the vision.
The principles that guide decisions and behaviour.
Who the business is best suited to serve.
The distinctive value we promise customers, and how we create it differently and better than our competition.
How accountabilities and objectives connect each person's work to the shared purpose.
Look for contradictions between the gears: does the customer promise fit the mission? Do goals reinforce the values? Does each role contribute to the vision?
The matrix is a separate, complementary tool. The Purpose Alignment Engine aligns strategic direction; the matrix tests how management supports that direction across the business.
Use the 3Px3P lens to test whether your management disciplines support your strategic priorities across People, Product and Profit. Processes include the technology and incentives that shape how work gets done.
| Management discipline | People | Product | Profit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Planning | Do roles and capabilities fit the plan? | Is the customer promise clear? | Do priorities support the economics? |
| Processes | Do tools and incentives help people succeed? | Can the work reliably deliver the promise? | Where do waste and rework erode value? |
| Performance Measurement | Are our people happy and engaged? Do the behaviours and outcomes we measure show that? | Are customers getting the intended outcome, and are they happy with the value and experience we deliver? | Are improvements creating business value and driving future profitability? |
Choose a gap. Agree on an owner and a next action. Review the evidence, coach the behaviour and adjust the plan.
The framework gives you a structure. The Rules give people shared expectations for how to use it: work with purpose, communicate clearly and connect through action, accountability and learning.
